sculpture shoot // PART C: PLAY

After observation and note taking, I play around with ideas. Without other people...no other vendors, no other voices, just the thoughts in my head of how something I saw might translate into work. I put on my Pavan playlist, which consists of inspiring movie scores and other music compositions that orchestrate and set the mood for what I want my work to evoke. To listen to samples of what I'm talking about visit our page here.

One of the writing concepts I loved learning in college was that we should describe and tell what isn't there as much as what is there. So some of my play is with negative space, some of my play is without human interaction, but maybe implies it was there at one point. And the way I capture some of those ideas is by photographing it for my records as another form of notes for later on to reference. What works, what doesn't...did it translate on film the way it did in person or in my head? This is the phase where I can ask all the questions in a quiet space and sit with the ideas to mold them a bit more. And then I throw on a dress and jump in the shots and have my husband capture what I'm trying to work out in the process. I can ask him for feedback, and no longer be alone with my thoughts.

As a lifestyle we created a sort of bubble of art for ourselves. We are very intentional about our creative process, our influences, sharing what we are working through and the struggles we encounter on the daily basis of working through what isn't working or connecting us to the final product we want. We don't allow for many outside factors to come in too early in the creative process so that our intentions are as focused and pure and grounded as possible...if that makes sense? So I don't bring other people in for feedback until I'm at a certain place of fleshing out an idea...which is why I bring my husband in before other vendors. He can come into the room with a small footprint and help me see what I'm making just a little bit more clearly.

Here's what I did for the play day:

I played with photo angles, composition, textures, negative space, background colors...etc.

Allison + Sam L.A. River Center Wedding

I really love when couples don't shy away from color for their wedding florals. There are always new shades being created, new flowers being introduced at the market, and I love when I get to freely introduce these new products to my clients. Allison and Sam flew in from New York City for their Los Angeles wedding, and I loved their vision for their wedding instantly. This old mission style venue at the LA River Center used to be a Lawry's restaurant, but now it serves as a historical landmark filled with information about the LA river history and conservation efforts for the future vision of our river. It's a beautiful space for a wedding. And the colors chosen compliments the Spanish style tiles and paintings in the venue space. It was a gorgeous set up, and I'm so glad I was able to be a part of this wedding.

Marissa + Tyler Wedding April 2017

The bright colors in the florals for this wedding, brought out a wonderful balance in the natural brick walls, and a wonderful contrast to the white wood work details. I absolutely loved all the shapes of these arrangements. Bright accents aren't my usual request, but I highly recommend it if your venue is a place where they can live well without too much competition with existing venue decor. Every table was a little different, and it was so pretty as an overall atmosphere for guests to walk into. Everything about this wedding felt warm and inviting. And every single flower was taken home after the wedding was over, which so rarely happens. But these were so beautiful to leave to die.

Danielle + Brenden March 2017

This art gallery wedding, which took place at the Long Beach Museum of Art was the type of dream wedding as a designer. With a slight Grecian theme, we included fig leaves, and simple draping into the decor. We also came up with 3 different design concepts for the various tables for variety. We wanted each arrangement to feel like it's own sculpture to fit in with the art aspect, but also tied in their own aesthetic into the decor. I loved how it all came together.

Andrew + Stephanie March 2017

This year, I decided to take on the challenge of documenting my floral work on film at each of my weddings. This was the first of my spring season weddings to document at the wonderfully beautiful location The Inn of the 7th Ray in Malibu. You don't even feel like you are in Los Angeles with this creekside venue.
